He is adorable! I seem to remember being told once that if a yound cheetah is orphaned, there is no chsnce of it learning the skills to ever be released back into the wild, is this correct? and if it is correct, does that make Menelik quite tame?

Thankyou for the wonderful photo of Menelik. Exciting times ahead for Menelik and Cody as well. I am pleased that you have mentioned about the Ethiopian Wolves and have added them to your fundraising site. Many people may not know about these rare and endangered animals who need as much support as possible.

Hi Anna,
Apologies for not coming back to you sooner on your comment here! Menelik is indeed quite tame - he would have been orphaned as a very young cheetah and has been hand-raised learning none of the vital skills which he would have needed to survive in the wild. Therefore, unfortunately, there is very little chance he could be released back into the wild.
When we construct the Wildlife Rescue Centre, Born Free will, in close conjunction with the Ethiopian authorities, endeavour to return every animal possible to the wild. However, if this is not possible, Born Free hope to offer that animal the richest life it can possibly have in captivity, providing large, natural enclosures, privacy and enrichment.
Many thanks again for your donation and comments.
